12.20pm report: Great conversation withe Dr. Seidel this morning. He confirmed that dad is really doing quite well and has been cleared for hospital release. The one issue is that dad is still testing positive for COVID-19. Mom has recently taken an antibody test and it came out negative, that she has no antibodies - indicating that she might not have had it. We do, however, feel that mom may have already had COVID-19, as she had many symptoms while quarantined in later march, when dad was admitted to the hospital. So at this point, we are worried about him coming home to possibly infect her, if the test that she took reads correctly. The Dr. did assure us that the higher viral load is really at its worst in the beginning, when the symptoms are at their height. At the 6 week marker, which is where we will be on Friday, the risk of infection is much lower.
Another thought was that if he came home with a positive test result, the home health services would not be able to come to the house. The Dr. feels, at this time that he is functionally on an independent level and that he may possibly use a bit of endurance therapy, however, they also feel that he is ok to do that on his own.
So, after weighing our options, we are planning on additional testing for dad on Thursday with a hospital to home departure of Friday. If he does come home with that positive test, he will remain quarantined in isolation for at least 7 days..
Great call with dad today - he is feeling great - patiently waiting for a negative COVID-19 test.
