12.30pm report: Although it is raining up a storm, the sun is certainly shining on Mom today - Wishing a very Happy Birthday to the strongest, kindest, warmest woman i know. Today as mom celebrates her big day, dad is preparing to come home and give her the biggest birthday gift ever - HIM!. Also, i checked in with doctors this morning and really not much more to say - dad seems to be doing well medically and physically. Today he will take his final COVID-19 test, with plans to come home tomorrow, no matter what the result. If positive, dad and mom will have to be super cautious, wear masks, stay apart at least for 7 - 14 days. Again, at 42 days since his first positive test, they do feel that the viral load is low and therefore the infect ability is low as well. He will have to follow up with Pulmonary, Heart and GI Docs within a few months of being home. What a long road this has been and what a bright light at the end of this!!
This is Richard Miller, he also was recovering from COVID-19, yet a diabetic he was also in rehab for having to has a few toes removed.. Dad really enjoyed his time with him - someone to talk too…
1.15pm report: Ok - so as we have all been on this rollercoaster we should now be used to ups and downs/good news / bad news.. I follow with this report of good news/bad news… First the good news… Dads COVID-19 test came back NEGATIVE… Technically, to lift precautions, the CDC recommends 2 negative tests in a row, so Dr. Seidel is suggesting another test tomorrow to guarantee that he is in the clear. Now the bad news…. After another round of blood work, it appears that dads hemoglobin has dropped to 7.6 which is a bit more than a 1/2g of expected fluctuation per day. It seems that all other vitals, markers, stool tests, etc. all look clear and stable. So this may be attributed to time of day that blood test is taken, hydration, etc. He will run another test in the morning and determine next steps. This might only push back hospital departure for a day or two, and will require that dad has this level tested each week with his own cardiologist. We will of course, keep you posted…..
Sent mom these flowers today - signed the card with dads name too...
