12am report: Late night check in with dads nurse Yadira. She felt like so far in her shift he is doing really well. He is down to 1 Litre on oxygen and the food tube is out. He is tolerating water, pills and pureed foods. All of his levels which are being watched are stabilized. Hemoglobin is at 8.6, Sodium levels are back to normal and Blood Pressure is in the 140s and they are happy with that… PT starts Monday and today he attempted to get up and walk around on his own. They suggested he wait. He did. That might have been the one episode where she said he was a bit confused and she said it too them no time to reorient him. Called him earlier to say goodnight. Will sleep so well seeing his smile before bed! xo.
12pm report: The first phone call i received from the hospital today was from Dad. ‘Hey, Good Morning” he says -I am no longer going to ever take those 3 words for granted - best thing i’ve heard. Amazing. He then questioned if it was even was morning - eating scrambled eggs all day and being in a bed closer to the door and not the window is keeping him off track. So I will chat with the nurse team to make sure he stays well oriented. I asked him which food he was looking forward to when home and said without question - Adams Steak.. Gave us all a smile, again……Of course, i still expect to hear from the doctors today, but a 10 minute call with dad tells me everything i need to know already!
11pm Family report: After speaking with dad numerous times throughout the day he called around 9 to say that he was experiencing stomach pains and had to go to the bathroom really bad - he was calling for the nurses and was finding it hard to get someone to tend to him. I called a few times as well and between 40 minutes to an hour one finally showed up. They found he has new GI bleeding/rectal bleeding of fresh blood with clots. They have not yet sourced the bleeding yet - his Blood Pressure has dropped to 89/50, and hemoglobin dropped to 7.1 - this is a significant drop and at this time they have decided to put him on an IV drip for fluids and will do a transfusion of 2 units to stabilize him until tomorrow am. Tomorrow am, a GI doc will conduct a colonoscopy. UGH.
Having a breakfast in honor of Dad - he would love this....
