8.30am report: Just heard from Dr Ward - wanted to let me know that dad is resuming his light diet and doing well. Being off oxygen is key. All levels look the same and that is great. With that he is moving forward with discharge plans as we know that he is ready. Having a positive COVID-19 test will limit the places we go. We have a family mtg with Dr Ward at 4pm - keep you posted.. but for now… definitely moving in the right direction..
11.30am report: Since dad is enjoying his window and now spending most of his days in the chair by the window - we decided it would be a great idea to pay him a visit.. So Felicia and I went over to the parking lot in the back of the hospital with balloons and signs and on the phone with him - we waved, jumped and blow kisses for dad.. He saw us, we think we might have seen him.. it was great…. After that we circled to the front of the hospital where medical workers were lining the streets and police, fire, ambulance, cars, etc. were driving by honking, sirens on to pay tribute to the hospital workers - Felicia and I drove by 3x honking and yelling out the windows how much we love them and how they saved our 80 year old dads life, etc, etc. Was quite an emotional experience. This whole ride has been surreal!!
12.45pm family report: A great phone call from dads social worker - Helen. Originally, the team thought that Burke Rehab might be too intense for him - so with him still testing positive for COVID-19, our options were limited on where to move him. However, since Helen had heard dad mention Burke a couple of times she reached out and they agreed that he would be a great candidate so they are ready to take him as soon as the hospital can release him…. We aren’t yet telling dad and we have a follow up call with Dr Ward at 4pm to iron out details…
2.00pm family report: Just heard back from Helen, the Social Worker on dads case and she spoke with Dr Claire, the resident tending to dad and they didn’t want him going today - but felt it would be ok that he leave for Burke tomorrow. We will tell dad with Dr. Ward at 4pm today. She will call with specific details to timing, etc. She did mention that she will need comfortable clothing and walking shoes… Mom - I can pick up tomorrow and get to Burke tomorrow…
Today we rode in an amazing parade to honor the Health Care workers at Greenwich Hospital.
