11.30am report: I just heard from Dr Ward and he was feeling that dad was doing more of the same or even a bit better today. They were able to get another feeding tube in today which will enable him to continue to get meds and fluids. He said today he was speaking a bit more clearly and seemed well oriented. His bleeding has stopped, his hemoglobin levels are steady at 9, his white blood count is down which is good and his kidney numbers are improving quickly. Sodium is a bit high, but that is driven by his fluids and they are going to change what he is given so that they can better control those levels - not a concern. Dr said he feels that most patients go through a cycle where they have few symptoms, get hit hard, and then begin to get better.. He truly feels that dad has been hit and is on the road to recovery.
1.20pm report: Just had a great face time call with dad. All things considered, he looked great, was on his game and witty as usual. His speech was fairly clear. Great news is that he worked with a Speech and Language Pathologist and he was able to swallow thick liquids and today will tackle crushed up pills in apple sauce. This is progression.
9.45pm report: It was a quick one. He is doing well - has been taking thickened liquids through he mouth and even pills in applesauce. Thats great news - if he can tolerate his pureed breakfast tomorrow, they will plan on removing the feeding tube. They have begun lowering his oxygen support, currently at 3.5 liters, and he is tolerating that so far. All in all things seem fairly stable and Nurse Sarah said he is chatty and comfortable. Some news to help us all sleep well…
Spring is definitely in the air.. cant wait for dad to be able to smell the flowers..
