6:00pm report: Hello - Great news - Dad was able to shave and feels so fresh and clean now… Just heard from Donna, she is a Social Worker from Burke and has been working with him for the past few days. She said he is really doing well there - all vitals look strong, he is on a healthy/cardiac diet that he is eating and as far as the PT goes, he is progressing quicker than expected. Today he walked a total of about 75 feet with no assistance, and that is great. They are hoping for a discharge next Tuesday, of course anything can change, but that is the plan for now. I will speak with Dr Benjamin Seidel tomorrow and will get a more detailed report. In the next few days they will do another COVID-19 test to see if it has left his system yet. He will be discharged either way. We all have been visiting him each day with signs and even bringing the dogs. Although its just from a far and through a window, it is still great for a wave, a smile and blown kisses…
Also, today, I dropped off a few thank you boxes to the 3 units at Greenwich Hospital where dad spent his time. I cant wait to meet them all….
4:00pm Family report: During my call with Donna, the Social Worker from Burke, she mentioned that dad was really doing great there. Dr. Seidel really feels that he will be able to be discharged next Tuesday, considering his condition does not change. Donna has contacted Sterling Home Care, who is part of the Aetna plan and comes with some strong recommendations from Burke and Aetna. The plan will be fore next Tuesday, a discharge around 10 - 11am - we will go to Burke to pick him up, they will send him home with meds, medical records, homecare info and a discharge summary. While at home, he will be cared for by a Visiting Nurse, a Physical Therapist and by a Home Health Aid worker. On day one the Visiting Nurse will determine how often each member of the team will visit him at the house. Donna, at Burke, will coordinate all these players and we will not have to reach out, to make the initial contact. As of now, the Therapist has suggested a 1st floor set up (meaning a bed on the first floor). They, at this time, would prefer the physical therapist to work with him on the stairs in the house and to avoid them initially. Donna is reaching out to her contacts in OT to find out about hospital bed rentals. Donna has assured me that Burke is very cautious on their release plan with each patient and will rest-assured send dad home only when it is safe and when he is ready. amazing!
Just got this photo from Telemetry unit with a note say “thank you from Steve’s girls”.
